Why this matters if you're ordering for a business
If you're ordering signage, labels, packaging, or corporate print for a registered business, the invoice you get back matters as much as the product. A non-compliant or missing GST invoice creates real problems at tax time, not just a paperwork inconvenience.
What a compliant GST invoice needs
Under GST rules, a valid tax invoice needs a set of mandatory fields — GSTIN of both parties (where applicable), a unique sequential invoice number, HSN/SAC codes, taxable value, and the correct CGST/SGST or IGST split depending on whether the supply is within your state or across states. A vendor who can't produce this correctly on every order creates extra work for your books, every time.
What if the buyer isn't GST-registered?
For an ordinary retail buyer without a GSTIN, a simpler bill of supply generally applies instead of a full GST invoice. But if you're ordering on behalf of a registered business, make sure your vendor is actually issuing the invoice to your business's GSTIN, not a generic consumer-style receipt.
What to check before you order
- Does the vendor ask for your GSTIN and business details up front, or only after you push for it?
- Does the invoice you receive show a proper tax breakdown (CGST/SGST or IGST), not just a total?
- Is the invoice number sequential and traceable, the way GST rules require?
How Staynish handles this
GST-compliant invoicing is built into how Staynish processes business orders — Labels and Packaging orders, and enquiries for Signage and Corporate Printing, are handled with this as a standard part of the process, not an add-on you have to request.
