How Does Custom Bottled Water Work?
Custom bottled water is your brand on a bottle of water. Three parties make it happen: you, a bottler who fills the bottles, and a printer who makes the labels. Here is how the pieces fit together.
The short answer
You decide the brand and the design. A bottling company supplies and fills the bottles. A label printer produces the labels that carry your brand. The finished bottle is yours, with the bottler's water inside.
Who is involved
- You: the brand, the design and the customer
- A bottler: the party that bottles and fills the water and knows the regulations for it
- A label printer: makes the labels from your artwork. staynish is a label printer
Step by step
- Decide your audience and the occasion: a hotel, an event, a retail line
- Choose the bottle size and type with your bottler
- Confirm with the bottler what must appear on the label
- Design your label with that content included
- Print the labels, choosing a waterproof material for chilled bottles
- The bottler fills and labels the bottles, or you label them yourself, and they are delivered
What goes on the label
Packaged drinking water has information requirements set by regulation and applied through your bottler. Ask the bottler for the exact content before you design, and send that final content to the label printer. staynish prints the content you supply, and does not certify label compliance.
What affects the cost
Ask your bottler for their minimums early, since they often set the scale of your first order.
- The bottles and the closures
- The water and the filling
- The labels: material, size and quantity
- Packaging and delivery
- The minimum quantities your bottler works to
Where staynish fits
staynish prints the labels only. We do not bottle, fill or supply water, and we do not supply bottles. You can order labels from 50 up to 10,000 in the configurator, and we can deliver them to your bottler's address.
Private label versus contract bottling
In private label, a bottler sells you water that you brand as your own. In contract bottling, you supply the specification and the bottler fills to it. Either way, the label is yours, and the printer works from your final artwork.
